Trekking Mount Batur at sunrise is one of Bali’s most famous outdoor adventures, offering a stunning panoramic view from the top of an active volcano. Standing at 1,717 meters (5,633 feet) above sea level, it is considered a moderate, beginner-friendly hike. The climb takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours to reach the summit, right in time to watch the sun rise over Lake Batur and neighboring Mount Agung.

Hiking and Trekking Sunrise Mount Batur – Kintamani

⏱️ The Hiking and Trekking Sunrise Kintamani Timeline

Because the goal is to reach the summit before dawn, the journey requires a very early wake-up call:

🥾 Trail Difficulty & Terrain

Moderate Intensity: You do not need mountaineering experience, but you must be prepared for continuous uphill walking.
Volcanic Path: The lower trail winds through standard forest paths, but the upper half changes to slippery volcanic sand, loose gravel, and steep rock steps.
The Summit: The weather at the peak is cold and windy (around 14°C to 18°C) before the sun comes up.

📋 Cost & Guide Regulations

Guide Requirement: Hiring a local guide through the local association is mandatory. Independent hiking is heavily blocked by local communities to protect safety and the local economy.

Fees & Entry: The official government park entrance fee is IDR 100,000 per person. Most travelers choose all-inclusive private tours booked through operators like local agencies, which cover transportation, entry tickets, flashlights, breakfast, and the guide fee starting from around IDR 350,000 to IDR 750,000+ per person depending on group size
